Class 15
In this class, we reviewed grades and the class as a whole.
We looked at some other Unreal projects, too:
- Ke Jiang’s Final MCAD project, an Unreal level built on UnrealEngine2 Runtime
- VRND (Virtual Reality Notre Dame) - and oldie, but a goodie
We then looked at some UnrealEd stuff:
- Zones & Portals - the Unreal way of creating distinct areas of detail
- Antiportals - a way of optimizing outdoor, terrain levels
- Sounds - ambient, in-game sounds (tutorial here)
- Level Music - music that plays (and loops) while your level is active
- Music files must be in OGG format (similar to MP3 - it’s a compressed audio format). A slick tool for creating OGG files is here
- The OGG file must then be placed in the Unreal/Music
- Then you specify view->level properties->music the name of the OGG file that you’d like to play. For instance, to play Clockwork.ogg, you would set the music property to “Clockwork”
- Groups - a handy way to organize / hide / select items in your levels
We also looked at some great tools for audio and image manipulation, from PortableApps.com
